Press Release – Vélirium settles in at Mont-Sainte-Anne

Beaupré, Wednesday, July 29th, 2015 – This weekend, mountain bike’s history will be featured prominently at Vélirium, presented by Videotron Mobile, and celebrating 25 years of UCI World Cups at Mont-Sainte-Anne.

It is an understatement to claim that 1991 went down on history since, 25 years later, the greatest cyclists from all around the world will be reunited once more at the mountain, from July 31st to August 2nd. The UCI downhill World Cup presented by Vidéotron Mobile, the UCI cross-country World Cup presented by Jeep, the Vélo Mag’s Raid presented by PowerRunEnergy, the legend’s race, the Véli-Kidz and the Pumptrack Epic are all part of the long weekend’s festivities!

150 Downhill World Cups
In addition to the World Cup’s 25th anniversary we are about to celebrate this weekend, let us point out that the event is also hosting the 150th UCI Downhill World Cup in Sports History.

Who will be singled out amongst the great? Canadian Steve Smith is back on track after an injury and this is without a doubt going to keep us on the edge of our seats until the very end of the race. Let us not forget the American Aaron Gwin, leader in classification, will take the start, along with 2014 winner Sam Hill, from Australia.

The UCI cross-country World Cup, presented by Jeep, will be an important stepfor all racers since they will have the chance to collect UCI classification points in preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

From our very own province, all eyes are on Raphael Gagné who won first place at Toronto’s Pan Am Games. Canadian Emily Batty and Catharine Pendrel respectively won gold and silver as well!

25 years of history
“ What we would like, this year, is to share fond memories from the past 25 years with people who accompanied us from the beginning and those who joined us over the years ”, says Patrice Drouin, Gestev’s president, “ we are welcoming industry legends for the occasion, but also young legends such as Raphaël Gagné who is entering his 10th World Cup competition with us. ” To commemorate with images the greatest moments of those last 25 years, the Lounge Tremblay will be decorated in a historical way. Memories to be relived for thousands of people from the industry and also for this weekend’s audience.

Plenty of action
As well as the weekend World Cups, Vélirium has something for everyone with Raid Vélo Mag – presented by Power Run Energy – and featuring over 500 amateur cyclists pedaling 33, 63, or 81 km on Saturday, August 1st. The traditional Véli-Kidz children’s race will be back on the morning of Sunday, August 2nd, in the Family Zone. And there will also be fun to be had at Epic Pumptrack, in the Exhibitors’ Village, at Duel de la Côte, and of course at the parties held in the Lounge Tremblay at the foot of the slopes.
