29th provincial school transportation safety campaign – Focus on young people to ensure their safety!
QUEBEC CITY, Jan. 30, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ – The Bus Carriers Federation launched its 29th province-wide school transportation safety campaign with a colourful walk that ended this morning, in front of the Parliament in Quebec City. Again using the Did You See Me? slogan, the campaign is currently under way all over the province until February 10, since walks gathering 2000 of students from schools are being organized in six Quebec regions.
“This great involvement, which is higher than ever this year, demonstrates the importance of reiterating our awareness message year after year. Still today, too many people ignore the yellow buses’ signal lights and do not slow down when in a school zone. Yet it is a matter of ensuring our children’s safety!” said Mr. Martin Paquette, chairman of the Bus Carriers Federation.
Collective mission: greater vigilance from road users
From Gatineau to Gaspé, through Sherbrooke and Shawinigan, the focus will be on young people, since they carry the message for a second consecutive edition, from January 30 to February 10 inclusively. Various activities involving all school and transportation stakeholders, including the Did You See Me? walk, will take place across the province to remind drivers, schoolchildren, and their parents to be careful around school buses and adopt safe habits.
“Given the prevention work that has been done for 29 years now, we are very proud of our fantastic road safety record. We work hard on it every day. However, every accident is one too many and we therefore need to work twice as hard to reiterate our message. To do so, we need everyone’s participation,” added Mr. Paquette.
Crucial, committed partners
To help make the annual safety campaign a success, the Bus Carriers Federation receives financial support from ministère des Transports, de la Mobilité durable et de l’Électrification des transports, du ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur, de la Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec, d’Intact Assurance, de Girardin inc., Cain Lamarre Barristers and Solicitors, and Fédération des commissions scolaires du Québec. CAA-Québec, school boards, school governing boards, and the police also support and actively participate in the campaign.
