Quebec City (Quebec) August 21, 2014 – Around 11PM on Monday night a convenience store employee was confronted by an individual waving a knife and asking for $30 dollars because he was hungry. Instead of responding to the intruder’s demands, the store clerk instead grabbed a baseball bat and starting hitting the assailant. The two struggled and with the help of another person in the store the robber was apprehended until police arrived.

The man with the knife was identified as Chrystian Trudel, 43, a person well known to police and who has a significant criminal record. M. Trudel had just been released from hospital and since it was too late to get a meal from the community food-bank, he decided to rob the store. The store employee suffered some minor cuts and scratches.

M. Trudel will be facing charges for theft, and armed aggression and has pleaded guilty on all counts. The lawyer for the prosecution suggested the judge impose a penalty of 4 years behind bars due to the offender’s heavy and substantial judicial records.
