9th Beauport Blues Festival Hailed a Success

The Beauport en Blues Festival showcased many new elements for its ninth outdoors edition including a first visit to Canada for the Californian guitarist Jake Nielsen, a first performance in Quebec for Nora Jean, and a first presentation of the Lys Blues Gala.

The festival musical director, Eric Morin was in jubilant mood for the event which took place July 18th to 20th. His main objective was to fill the natural site of the Agora at the Maison Girardin every night, which can contain 5,000 people. He considers his goal achieved this year again.

Starring Brian Tyler and a tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan, the festival started off strong with over 4,000 people in the audience. The next day, the heavy rain forced the organizers to move the stage to the Monseigneur-De Laval community centre. Since the capacity was reduced, only 600 people could be there for Colin White and Nora Jean.

The shows planned on Saturday afternoon were not as lucky as the artists in the evening such as Jake Nielsen.

The eleventh edition of the Lys Blues Gala figured in the July 21st program.

Working with those big names, students from the Troubadour music school played great classics such as Hit the road Jack and Satisfaction.
