Amphitheatre Opens to Packed House

Quebec City (Quebec) 12 September 2015 – Four years and 370M$ were what it took to turn the dream of a new amphitheatre into a reality.  Earlier today, Québec City’s new Amphithéâtre Vidéotron opened its doors for its very first event: a hockey match between the Québec City Remparts and the Rimouski Océanic.

The event was sold out and crowds were already filling the area in and around the amphitheatre hours before the junior major hockey match.  Mayor Régis Labeaume arrived at around 4:30PM to a dense and smiling crowd.  “We don’t open amphitheatres often,” said the energised mayor when asked how he felt.

Sam Hamad, provincial minister responsible for the region, highlighted the importance of former Québec premier Jean Charest to securing funding for the project.

Opening ceremonies lasted for a little over an hour before the puck was dropped.
