Another unfortunate suicide by a soldier

Quebec City (Quebec) 09 September, 2014 – Another soldier from Valcartier military base has taken his own life.

Claude Emond had fought in Afghanistan back in 2009 and ever since then his mental state had been deteriorating to a point where his psychologists and psychiatrists could no longer help him.

His wife said he had been suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) ever since he came back from his posting. He had reached a point of almost no return and was sleeping with a gun under his pillow.

His wife said that he had horrific memories of seeing children being shot and of picking up body parts.

M. Emond took his life last Monday afternoon by shooting himself with his own gun. He had resigned from the military in 2013, and was granted his discharge, making him officially an ex-military employee meaning the army might not give him a military funeral.

His wife is upset that her husband was not helped more in his recovery, and that he perhaps didn’t have all the help he needed from his employer or his compatriots.

He had served for 20 years in the Canadian Armed forces and often complained that he had gone from ‘Hero to Zero’ and that no one really cared any more.
