DOMINICAN SQUAD TO TOUR CAN-AM LEAGUE IN 2017
Will replace South Korean team on regular-season schedule

Durham, N.C. — Can-Am League clubs will each play a series against a national team from the Dominican Republic during the 2017 regular season, the league announced on Friday. Games against the Dominican team will replace South Korea’s Yeoncheon Miracle, who encountered visa and travel issues in their preparations to come to North America, on the schedule.

League commissioner Miles Wolff and president Dan Moushon recently returned from the Dominican Republic, where they finalized details of the agreement to have the team participate in the Can-Am League season. Members of the team will be selected by the Dominican Republic’s national baseball federation, which also oversees player selection for events such as the World Baseball Classic.

“International baseball has never been more popular, especially with a memorable World Baseball Classic earlier this month. The Dominican Republic is one of the world’s top baseball countries, and we’re looking forward to welcoming them to face the Can-Am League’s teams,” commissioner Miles Wolff commented.

The Can-Am League is in its third season hosting international clubs as part of its regular-season schedule. In addition to the Dominican club, teams will also face the Cuban national squad in June 2017.

The Dominican Republic will play 19 games against league members.

Their full schedule:

June 9-11: at Sussex County
June 13-15: at New Jersey
June 16-18: at Rockland
June 19-21: at Trois-Rivieres
June 22-25: at Quebec
June 27-29: at Ottawa
