World War I: A Monumental History
By Robert Konduros & Richard Parrish
Price: $39.99

In their book, World War I: A Monumental History, author Robert Konduros and photographer Richard Parrish take the reader on a journey across Canada, France and Belgium to visit some of the hundreds of statues, cenotaphs and other memorials dedicated to the 619,636 Canadians who served in The Great War.

Included in this 196-page tribute to Canadian soldiers and the artists who immortalized them is a dynamic sculpture of a soldier and his horse that stands in Dorchester Square in Montreal, created by Quebec sculptor George Hill.

People visiting or living in Québec’s largest city have probably noticed The Sailors’ Memorial Tower standing tall beside the St. Lawrence River. Located along the Quai de l’Horloge (originally called Victoria Pier) in Montréal’s Old Port, this memorial, also known as the Montreal Clock Tower, is dedicated to the Canadian sailors who died in the First World War.

The National War Memorial in Ottawa is also featured on a colourful two-page spread. The meaning of this memorial was sadly remembered once again on Oct. 22, 2014, when a gunman shot and killed Corporal Nathan Cirillo, one of the two sentries guarding the tall granite arch known as The Response.LiQ_Mag_Sub_Banner
