Cap Rouge Tracel 100 Years Young

Tracel_Cap_RougeHeritage from the time when railroads were in expansion, the Cap-Rouge tracel is celebrating its 100th year in service in 2013. Although time has taken its toll on the structure, the overpass that crosses Cap-Rouge remains a strong symbol for this area.

The festivities revolving around the 100-year old tracel were launched in front of about one hundred people back in mid-January while revealing the slogan “Le Tracel de Cap-Rouge: 100 ans d’histoires” and the official logo.

Organized in collaboration with the Cap-Rouge Historical Society (SHCR), the one hundredth year will be an occasion to trace back the history of the area and railway which forged Cap-Rouge’s identity at that time.

The structure is one kilometre long and 50 metres high and was built at the same time as the Quebec bridge as part of the construction of the Transcontinental linking Winnipeg to New Brunswick.

Many activities are organized around the 100th anniversary. The whole population is invited to participate.
