Carnaval Gears Up for its 60th Edition

Carnaval Gears Up for its 60th Edition

In 2014, the Carnaval de Québec will blow out its 60 candles. With age comes experience, and the Carnaval’s General Director promises that the anniversary will be a big celebration. The organization wants more young adults to participate since the 59th presentation offers beer and shows for the winter festival where the mascot hides behind shades. It gives Bonhomme a “cool” look as if he was a celebrity, which he is. The winter’s star!

This marketing strategy aims to put the event on an international stage. The organization wishes that participating in this event becomes a reflex since 80% of Canadians already know the Bonhomme Carnaval – many politicians wish to be as popular! To reach this goal, the organization is getting involved with many other events such as the Festibière, which will present La Brassée du Carnaval infront of the military armory (Manège Militaire).

Choosing the Bonhomme’s palace instead of the City Hall to shake hands with the mayor, Canada’s prime minister, Stephen Harper, is “giving a flower” to the Québécois and artisans…even though they would prefer to have a visit from Celine Dion.
