CHUL Cancer Care Unit to be Refurbished

Earlier this week, some great news came the way of the Mother-Child Centre of the Centre hospitalier de l’Université Laval (CHUL).

The care unit unit for children with cancer will be completely refurbished to the tune of $10 million, thanks in part to a contribution of $5 million from the Charles-Bruneau Centre Foundation.

The number of beds in rooms will increase from 9 to 12. In addition, the number of seats in closed cubicles for chemotherapy will be multiplied by four, and two pressurized isolation rooms will be built. Rooms for researchers are also part of the project.

Developments will begin next year and will be spread over a period of 26 months.

The new premises will better meet the standards and promote healing of children with weak immune systems.

During the last year, there were nearly 3,900 visits in pediatric oncology, and over 2,100 treatments were given at the CHUL.

This represents a 139% increase compared to 2004. The CHUL‘s Mother-Child Centre welcomes children from all over Eastern-Quebec.
