CN Denies Mayor Labeaume’s Facts

Quebec City (Quebec) 29 March 2015 – Contradicting the words of Mayor Labeaume, the Canadian National railways swears they informed the City, March 12th, of the existence of a study by engineering firm Roche on paint costs for the Québec Bridge.

Asked to respond, Paul-Christian Nolin, spokesperson of the mayor, continues to deny this. “Our chief of staff is not a fool, he has reacted strongly. If he was told that there was a study, we would have released it ourselves.”

Wednesday, Mayor Labeaume himself referred to the March 12th discussions between his Chief of Staff, Louis Côté and Olivier Chouc, vice president of CN Legal Affairs. The mayor reiterated that neither the study commissioned Roche, much less the new costs of painting the bridge, were discussed.

In a report commissioned by CN, the engineering firm Roche concluded that the painting of the bridge would not cost $ 200 million, but 350 to 400 million.

Mayor Labeaume, who vigorously disputes these figures, said yesterday that he will make sure the study that the City will order on the same subject is not given to Roche.
