Completely ineffective flu vaccine

Completely ineffective flu vaccine

Bad news for those who braved the flu shot this winter season.

The vaccine administered against the flu this year in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada has had an efficiency rate of 0%.

Data published Thursday in the journal Eurosurveillance shows that the vaccination campaign against influenza is a real failure this year in the country. The vaccine has not offered sufficient protection to reduce the number of doctor visits.

The author of the study, Dr. Danuta Skowronski, told the Canadian Press that most cases of influenza this year, caused by an H3N2-like virus have been caused by virus strains which differ from those contained in the injection administered.

This basically means that this year, people who received the vaccine and those who have not received it have had the same level of protection against influenza. i.e. nothing at all.

The results of the Canadian study are lower than those of a recent US study, which concluded that the vaccine had reduced the risk of contracting the virus and having to see a doctor by 23%.

The efficiency rate of a vaccine against influenza is usually between 50% and 70%.
