Cross-Canada Offender Caught in Québec

Quebec City (Quebec) August 15th, 2014 – A man suspected of fraud in Ontario and Québec was picked up on Thursday of this week thanks to one of his presumed victims.

Alexandre Huy Nguyen Quang, 33, was arrested on charges of minor fraud when he was called by a man from whom he was extorting money to apparently help the man start a restaurant. The victim had already given M. Quang three different payments of approximately $1500, but saw no results for his payments. Thinking something was abnormal he decided to call the police and a sting operation was set up to apprehend M. Quang at the same time. When the suspect arrived, expecting another payment, the police was waiting and handcuffed him.

M. Quang was wanted in Toronto, Montréal and other parts of the country for minor fraud and misdemeanors and operated under different names using false documents which were found on his person when he was stopped by police. His M.O. was always the same; asking for small amounts of money to help someone start a business. He had convictions going back as far as 2008.

The suspect was working as a cook in a restaurant in St. Foy, and had told people that he also owned a restaurant. He had a residence in Blainville, Québec but, was living temporarily in Québec City with a roommate. He will be back in Québec City for a hearing on August 22 for the specific case. M. Nguyen Quang had existing police records as well.
