Dancing in Lévis – they’ve got it going on

If you wanna’ dance, Lévis is the place to go.

Lévis (Quebec) 23 October 2014 – There’s a new craze going around the province called “Hit the Floor” and it’s all about dancing and money.

So far it’s only in Lévis and Gatineau but, they’re calling it a national competition because it’s open to all Canadians.

It’s a dance competition pretty much open to anyone who thinks they can dance, and it is causing quite a stir in Lévis, just across the river from Quebec City. The competition, which has been going on four years, has been a huge success for the south shore city; so much so that the mayor, Gilles Lehouillier, has just declared the event as the most revenue producing factor for the city in a long time.

The competition, which takes place in May, produced an influx of $1.8 million dollars in the city’s coffers, with 12,000 spectators enjoying the show last year, making it the most successful attraction Lévis has produced in ages.

Because of its revenue producing results Mayor Lehouillier announced that the city will inject $90,000 into the project to help maintain its longevity, stretching the money out by giving $30,000 annually for the next three years.

The organizers of the event are pleased with the city’s contribution and can breathe a bit easier for the next three years because of it. Prizes for the competitors go up from $125 up to $1500, depending on the extent of the contestant’s productions.

So if you think you can dance, check out hitthefloor.ca, and get ready to show your stuff.
