Editorial: Life in Québec – There’s no life like it!

It’s a cruel, crazy, beautiful world. Don’t believe me? Look around you. In fact, just look at what’s inside this summer issue of Life in Québec Magazine.

We’ll get to the mag in a moment. First, let me welcome you to summer in Québec. It’s been a long time coming, it seems, after yet another long and cruel winter.LiQ_Mag_Sub_Banner

As usual, winter in La Belle Province wasn’t so bad if you’re a snow sports enthusiast or Bonhomme Carnaval. Those of us who relish the beauty of the capital city in summertime, with its festivals, terrasses and endless parade of summer smiles, have been waiting with bated breath for this time to come again.

Yes, the warmer months have finally arrived, and no matter where you call home – Québec City, Montréal, the regions, or somewhere beyond the borders of our unique and wonderful province – you will find an array of reasons to live life in Québec to the fullest.

At press time, it’s too late to encourage our readers to support the Carrefour international de théâtre de Québec, but if you missed this year’s edition, make a point of checking it out next year. If you were lucky enough to experience it, go again next summer. You’ll be supporting performance art at its finest chez nous.

If you’re in the area now, have a look at what our entertainment scene has to offer in both languages. Of course, it wouldn’t be summer in the city without the Festival d’été, and this year music lovers young and old will be treated to performances from musical greats both new and, well, old. The Rolling Stones headline the festival, alongside newer acts that are well established, up and coming or yet to be discovered. AC/DC and Metallica will also pay a visit to our fair city, so as they say, ‘(ladies and) gentlemen, start your engines.’

Once you’ve recovered from that, you can recapture the festive feeling in the fall and participate in the Québec City Celtic Festival, a celebration of ancient cultures more common to the average Québécois than the average Québécois would believe, as you’ll learn in this issue of Life in Québec.

That brings us back to the magazine, and the cruel, crazy, beautiful world it continues to depict.

In this issue we explore the beauty of Rue du Trésor, a narrow tourist mecca where the artistically inclined can discover the true heart of Old Québec through the eyes of artists whose own hearts and souls go into every piece they produce.

In a feature interview, Charlotte Habegger, a courageous woman who has transcended the cruelty and craziness of domestic violence, reveals the beautiful difference she now makes in the lives of others.

We also introduce you to Jack Lavoie, an intriguing figure who finds beauty in both landscaping and making award-winning music.

Your summer issue of Life in Québec features this and so much more, and we’re proud to present it.

I am also proud to introduce myself as the new editor of Life in Québec, a magazine, website and – dare I say – a mirror that reflects this little slice of the cruel, crazy, beautiful world that we call our own.

We have great things in store for you in the months and years to come. For starters, this issue is our first to be distributed across the province. If you’re a first-time reader or subscriber, welcome! We hope you enjoy the ride on the good ship Life in Québec, and we promise to do our utmost to live up to your expectations for a high-quality, relevant and entertaining read.

Let us know what you think!

We also encourage you to listen to our podcasts and to stay tuned for even more content on other platforms.

It’s a cruel, crazy, beautiful world. We’re living it here at Life in Québec. Sign up, log on, tune in, and come live it with us!
