Enjoy the summer on the Plains of Abraham

Quebec, July 2013 – Last July 2, the National Battlefields Commission opened two exhibitions: Student Masterworks and Martello Tower 4 – a look through the eyes of tomorrow’s architects. These two new exhibitions, which are open to the public until next September 2 at the Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham, let you plunge into the past with an original twist. There are other outing suggestions offered during this summer period: the Martello Tower 1 augmented reality exhibition, the Odyssey multimedia exhibition, and the indispensable Abraham’s Bus guided tour. Enjoy summer on the Plains with your family!

Martello Tower 1 – augmented reality exhibition

From 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on the overhang towering above the St.Lawrence River
Enter the remains of this remarkable defence work where, using a tablet (iPad), you can explore the history of the Quebec Martello towers, their military engineering, their architecture, and the living conditions of the soldiers billeted in them: a unique, user-friendly virtual experience that lets you see real-time historic animations superimposed on the tower’s scenery.

Odyssey Multimedia Exhibition

From 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham – on two stories
From the birth of the colony to the creation of the country, witness the importance of the Plains of Abraham through 400 years of history. Amazing and lively multimedia presentations alongside great historical figures, as well as a remarkable collection of uniforms related to the battles, will be waiting for you at the Odyssey.

Martello Tower 4

Through this mini-exhibition forming part of the Odyssey multimedia exhibition, discover how tomorrow’s architects reinterpreted the vocation of Martello Tower 4. Hotel, diving centre, cafe lounge, bike stop… a boundless imagination: surprising, original, visionary. A project carried out in the fall of 2012 by thirteen students of workshop 3, Heritage Interpretation and Requalification, under the leadership of David Tajchman, architect and visiting professor, in collaboration with the École d’architecture de l’Université Laval.

Student Masterworks – 5th edition

In this exhibition, you will view the creations of 200 students from five schools of the Commission scolaire de la Beauce-Etchemin: A collection of over 160 reproductions of historical objects of the New France period. Thousands of hours of work by these primary and secondary level students, with the support of thirteen teachers… Impressive!

Abraham’s Bus

Climb aboard Abraham Martin’s bus and this colourful character, or his spouse, will tell you all about the memorable sites of the Plains which bear his name. During this humour-filled tour you will learn about the park’s history and its well-kept secrets. Ideal for the whole family!

Prices Martello Tower 1, Odyssey*or Abraham’s Bus:
Free/4 years old and under, $4/5-12 years old,
$10/13-17 years old or 65 years old and over,
$14/18-64 years old, $33/family including a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children (5-17 years old).
Admission to any one of these three activities includes free access to the other two.
