FEQ 2.0 and Beyond

Quebec City, July 4, 2013 – The Festival d’été de Québec, which already incorporates advanced use of social media and mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android into the experience, takes another technological and social leap forward with its interactive logos, festival fan tree, iTunes partnership, the use of Songza playlists and personalized wristband.

Interactive logos

Augmented reality and video recognition!

For the past three years , the Festival has put new videos on its website every day, including close-ups with artists before their performance, during rehearsals or visiting Quebec City. This year, fans can see these videos on the Plains, at the Parc de la Francophonie or anywhere the Festival logo is displayed. How does it work? Simply download the Festival iPhone app, click on ‘Today’s Video’ and point the phone toward a Festival logo. A different video will run every day. For iPhone 4s and 5, iOS 6 and higher.

“Now what was a conventional sign goes beyond giving information or directions. It evolves, comes to life and puts the festivalgoer in the heat of the action. This is a whole new immersive experience,” explains communications director Luci Tremblay.
Developed by Merchlar, this form of interaction is already used in the record and film industry.

The festival fan tree

Based on the idea that a picture is worth a thousand words, the creators of the application YourExtraLife thought up 11 really fun challenges, one for each day of the Festival, and all in photos: the die-hard festival fan, fireflies , the bus packed to the gills and more. Just take the requisite photo, have it approved, put it online and even share it on Facebook and move up the ranks. It’s an easy new way to have fun with pictures!

As they meet each challenge, festival fans create their challenge tree. Winners could get passes for 2014!

“We know that everybody takes photos during the Festival, and this application is an original and creative way to use them! We were also happy to have the chance to help these young local entrepreneurs who had faith in their concept and worked on it all last year,” Tremblay added.

iTunes Canada

The Festival program is often the opportunity to discover new or little-known talent. This year, an agreement with iTunes Canada makes it possible to listen to a number of excerpts from the same artist, and sometime the entire album, on the Festival website and iPad application and even to buy the tracks or album directly. Now picking and choosing couldn’t be easier! All festival fans have to do is explore the program and mark their agenda with their favourite songs in mind.

Festival-dete-2013-wristbandImpressed by the Festival programming, iTunes has also devoted an entire page to the event: itunes.com/FEQ, showing all the different applications offered along with a list of the artists featured for 2013.

Songza

The Festival music is on Songza. There are seven playlists – one for each venue – and are available free to fans who just can’t wait for the Festival to start to get into the groove!

Wristband personalization

This year, festivalgoers can personalize their experience and above all, share it with their Facebook friends. Using the interactive terminals found at the various Festival venues, fans can use their wristband to let friends know what show they’re at and even send them a photo taken during the event.

Wristband personalization is accomplished in 3 easy steps, and each step gives the chance to win a prize. Full details at infofestival.com/monbracelet .

The 46th edition of the Festival d’été de Québec will be held from July 4 to 14, 2013.

The Festival d’été de Québec is presented by Bell in collaboration with Molson Dry.
