Fishing Ban on Jacques-Cartier River

Fishing Ban on Jacques-Cartier River

Quebec City (Quebec) 26 July 2015 – The Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks advises that fishing is prohibited in the Jacques-Cartier River in the area between the dam at Donnacona Cap Santé and McDougall in Pont-Rouge until 31 March 2016 inclusively. This is necessary to protect the Atlantic salmon population.

Indeed, as every year, the Ministry takes measures to protect the population of Atlantic salmon in the Jacques-Cartier River during its breeding period. However, the exceptional conditions make the population year very vulnerable during its migration to spawning sites upstream of this sector, which requires the Department to take an additional step.

The fishing ban in effect is therefore to encourage the breeding population of Atlantic salmon and is among the important efforts for several years to restore this population in the Jacques-Cartier River and contribute to its long conservation term.
