François Parisen Tour de Catalogne Update

François Parisen Tour de Catalogne Update

The Quebec cyclist, François Parisien took the 18th rank in the Tour de Catalogne’s first round, a World Tour competition presented in north-eastern Spain.

From the Argos Shimano team, Parisien finished the race before the main group consisting of approximately 150 riders, which was 28 seconds after the winner. The Belgian Gianni Meersman was the fastest to complete the 159.3 kilometre race in Calella, in the north-east of Barcelona. Meersman obtained a time of 3 hours 55 minutes and 56 seconds – a time that he shared with twelve other participants.

The Quebecer was the first of his group to reach the finish line. It wasn’t his goal to finish first for the team – they are all working together.

Parisien has a big week coming up. The tracks for the Tour de Catalogne are very rough; therefore, there are not many pure sprinters that go there, but Parisien can sprint through and it is the type of race where he can have a high score. Monday was a good start even though he would’ve liked to be in the first group.

Tuesday, for the second step, the 174 participants will travel over 160.7 kilometres between Girona and Banyole.
