Gospel Music Making its Place in Quebec City

Gospel Music Making its Place in Quebec City

The diversity of Québec’s  music culture is well established in our city; for example, the renowned Summer Festival showcases artists from all over the globe.

The venues throughout the city present Jazz/R&B, Contempory, Classical,Folk/Country, Hard Rock/Heavy Metal, Hip Hop, Alternative/Indie Rock and many more.

But Gospel music, which stems from southern United States, in the “Cradle of French civilization in North America???

Yes, since 1995 The Ensemble Gospel de Québec has been entertaining the citizens of Québec City with their uplifting music. They have produced two albums: Chants de Cotons and Show Me! produced by Claude Laflamme. Twenty passionate singers and 4 musicians  of all ages and from all walks of life  meet every week to practice, laugh and share their love of gospel music.

The intense energy and joy can be felt throughout the show, and after twenty minutes of listening  you’ll be on your feet and clapping your hands. Their first album Champs de Coton (2003) had a more country, pop, blues, and hip hop style. Now the Show Me! album (2010) is more urban gospel with zest and power! You can listen to the infamous  Amazing Grace or to their own compositions such as Run Away and Quest of a Child.

To mark the 90th anniversary of the parish of the Très-Saint-Sacrement, the Ensemble Gospel de Québec will give a benefit concert at Très-Saint-Sacrement Church, 1330 chemin Ste-Foy, Québec on the evening of September 23rd at 8 o’clock.  To purchase tickets at $31 call: 418-527-2555 or go to www.gospelquebec.com and follow the links.

What a perfect opportunity to hear their songs from their latest album Show Me! launched last November. No doubt after the concert, you will be hooked! Why not treat yourself and your loved ones and book their Christmas concert at the Théâtre Petit Champlain in Canada’s best and oldest neighbourhood Petit Champlain. Concert dates are December 2nd and 3rd  evenings at 8 o’clock.
