Shivers and haunting on the Plains of Abraham 

Throughout the month of October 2010, ghosts, elves and fairies will be haunting the Plains of Abraham hoping to come across courageous visitors. Beginning October 1, the National Battlefields Commission invites the population to take part in this feast, as amusing as it is terrifying. The young and not so young will enjoy all kinds of activities: haunted tower, fantastic rally, gruesome lantern tour, old-style beer sampling, family day, gloomy décor, and something new this year, a family lantern tour.
Joan of Arc décor 

Throughout October 

Daytime or evening, at the Joan of Arc Garden, (at the corner of Taché and Wilfrid-Laurier streets) 

Free access 

Joan of Arc welcomes visitors in her magnificent fall garden with its mysterious décor related to the history and tales of the Plains of Abraham, such as the white lady of Cape Diamond, the widow’s walk, the voices of Joan of Arc and La Corriveau. In addition, several tombstones will remind strollers of the personalities that left their mark on the park. 
Haunted tower and fantastic rally 

October 16, 17, 23, 30 and 31 

From 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Martello Tower 2 and in the Joan of Arc Garden (at the corner of Taché and Wilfrid-Laurier streets) 

Cost: $2 / person 

The entire family is invited to explore the haunted tower and its mysterious labyrinth. At each turn, surprises and décors will amaze and amuse even the smallest of visitors: space lab, treasure island, cemetery, mummy, witches and scarecrows… Harry Porter himself will be greeting them! And then the fantastic rally, a self-guided tour for children aged 5 and over, will entertain the craftiest among them at the Joan of Arc Garden.

Ghoulish Walk: lantern tour 

October 15, 16, 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30 

At 6:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., departure from 390, de Bernières 

Cost: $15 / person, reservations required 

Not recommended for children under 13 years of age 

Accompanied by La Corriveau or officer James Murray, participate in this spellbinding interactive walking tour that will show you the plains in a more ghoulish light, as well as several surprising characters. The Plains, formerly an isolated area hidden from view, were an ideal spot for crime, prostitution, bloody punishments, even executions. This unique tour will let you discover the dark tales of the park by lantern light: La Corriveau’s hanging, the widow’s walk, the white lady, the enigmatic white stone, the punishments doled out to soldiers of the Martello towers, thefts and more.

Bewitching Tour: family lantern tour 

October 17 and 31 

Departure at 5:00 p.m., from Martello Tower 2 

Cost: $8 / child, $10 / adult, reservations require

Follow Marguerite or Abraham Martin who will guide you through the unusual décor of the Joan of Arc Garden. Shivers will run down the spines of the littlest (5 to 12 year olds) to the oldest, in this unexpected course. Thanks to the magic spells and formulas your guide will teach you (recitation of formulas, use of lucky charms and various incantations), you will succeed in thwarting the mysteries haunting the park. You will then have to keep your cool while visiting the haunted tower of Martello 2. 
The Convict’s Last Drink 

October 15, 16, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30 

at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Martello Tower 2 

Cost: $14 / person, reservations required 

We are in the 19th Century, and a crime has been committed by a soldier on furlough. Be of the witnesses gathered around to sip a beer while discussing the fate of the guilty party, the conditions and atmosphere of the period. Take part in a colourful investigation in the unique setting of the Martello tower while enjoying beer from a micro-brewery.

Pirate-theme family day 

Sunday October 24 

Noon till 4:30 p.m., Martello Tower 2 and Joan of Arc Garden 

(at the corner of Taché and Wilfrid-Laurier streets) 

Cost: $2 / person 

Jack Rackham and his pirates will cast anchor in the garden during this family day. Arrgh! They will tattoo visitors to ward off bad luck in addition to sharing secrets: flag interpretation, assessment of a ship’s speed, attack weapons. 

The famous pirate Jack Sparrow will offer visitors three performances: at 1:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. In addition, young and old are asked to wear their pirate costumes and take part in the group photograph scheduled for 3:00 p.m. 

The most resourceful among visitors will enjoy the inflatable games and board the mini-train, while the fantastic rally will please the boldest among them. At Martello Tower 2, the bravest will run the course of the haunted tower labyrinth and savour delectable candy.
