Immostar Acquires Popular St-Nicolas Movie Theatre

Bad news for film fans, but not if you want to buy a new house…

Immostar has acquired the Saint-Nicolas outdoor movie theatre.

Couples and families will have the chance to watch movies on the site for one last summer but the construction of housing that can go up to 6 floors begins in 2014.

The trasaction with Cineplex Entertainment, owner of the vast field, has been completed two weeks ago. Immostar paid $4 million for this field of about one million square feet at the corner of Marie Victorin and Claude-Jutra Street.

CEO, André Pelchat, is already working on the places’ future plans, where he intends to build 500 affordable homes. He wants a mix of condos and rent apartments from medium to high density.

The new zonage rules for urbanism plans adopted in the month of December 2011, allows just about any type of residence, up to a maximum of six floors.

Lévis must give its approval.

Green Project

It is a project that will be completed in four to five years. Next summer the cinepark will project its last movies.

Immostar’s president bases himself on a green project to which people can relate. He wants to obtain the LEED ecological certificate for buildings.

For cinemagoers, this is a page of history that will soon be turned since this outdoors movie theatre is the last in the Quebec region.

There are only eight left in the province and the nearest one is in Drummondville.
