Is Gérard Deltell about to make jump from Provincial to Federal politics?

Quebec City (Quebec) 15 January 2015 – The rumour is circulating that Gérard Deltell, presently a provincial MNA for the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) is contemplating running in the next Federal election scheduled for next October.

According to some Conservative sources talking to La Presse newspaper, M. Deltell, a well known provincial politician, has been approached by the Conservative Party of Canada during the past few months by the party’s Intergovernmental Affairs Minister, Denis Lebel. The Prime Minister Stephen Harper has also met M. Deltell in the past and knows him well.

M. Deltell would run for the electoral district of Louis-Saint-Laurent, a circumscription he knows well and which used to be held by the Conservatives until the last elections when their star candidate Josée Verner was narrowly ousted from power by the NDP sweep that took the province by surprise four years ago.

M. Deltell is not denying the rumour but, says he will do nothing until June, when the provincial legislature shuts down for the summer stating he will represent his riding at a provincial level as long as possible.

The Louis-Saint-Laurent riding is basically the same district M. Deltell represents at his present provincial level, and he is well known and respected by his electors.

From the Conservative sources, they seem to think that M. Deltell is on board 100% with the decision to make the jump to Federal politics and are delighted that he has chosen their party.
