Kayaking from Montreal to Quebec City for a cause

Montreal & Quebec City (Quebec) 14 August 2015 – It’s called Défi Kayak Montréal-Québec, (Montreal-Quebec Kayak challenge) and it consists of 140 different teams paddling a kayak from Montreal to the beach in Beauport (Quebec City).

The event was organised by the shipping company Désgagnés, to collect funds for an organization called Jeunes musiciens du Monde, (Young musicians of the world) and is expected to take 4 days. Each team is hoping to collect $1,500 to contribute to the society which is active in Canada and India. The funds collected will go to help young musicians to continue their studies and promote their talents.

At the time of posting the kayaks had reached Sorel, a town about 65 km east of Montreal, which was the first planned overnight stop and although fatigue was the order of the day upon arriving, everyone is in good spirits and glad to have the weather on their side.

The second day (today, August 14) the teams will reach Trois-Rivières, the midway point of the four day excursion.

The whole trip covers a distance of 265 km and the boats are due to arrive in Quebec City sometime late in the afternoon on Sunday, August 16.

To follow the kayaks one can go on-line at defikayak.org (information in French).
