La Ribambelle Projects Selected for Entrepreneurship Competition

Two projects submitted by students of la Ribambelle elementary school and Académie Sainte-Marie high school from Beauport were selected, Wednesday night, to access the regional of the 15th Quebec entrepreneurship competition. The Gala for this occasion will be held on May 7th.

Académie Sainte-Marie won the first prize in the first high school cycle category with the Atelier Monovitesse ASM project. In this Vieux-Beauport establishment, teachers chose the entrepreneurial way to give a motivation for school. For almost four years, a room was changed to a bicycle fabrication and repair workshop. Students learn how to make them, promote their services, take care of sales, inventory, tools, and pieces.

This workshop is proposed to secondary two students who have doubled and who might be more interested with manual work. Ethics and Art classes are replaced by this workshop. About 8 to 9 bikes are built every year and many repairs were made as well.

The project Racontes-moi une histoire from la Ribambelle earned the first prize in the elementary second cycle category. The grade two class joined students from preschool to find marketing activities to promote reading. The class then had the idea to produce small children books. The kids registered the lecture on a CD, so that children could read the books on their own. A website will be created to integrate the stories produced.

About 50 projects were submitted for this competition in 2013. From this number, the jury kept 25 demonstrating student’s leadership. The school board is associated to the local development Centre form la Côte-de-Beaupré, Île d’Orléans, Jacques-Cartier, and Quebec as well as youth centres nearby. The national selection will be held June19th at the Congress Centre.
