L’Astral to reopen under Restos Plaisirs

Groupe Restos Plaisirs will be operating the iconic Astral restaurant rotating atop Le Concorde.  The restaurant group, which owns Le Cochon Dingue, Paris Grill, Le Café du Monde, and several other well-known Québec restaurants and chains, made the announcement earlier today.

The announcement puts an end to weeks of speculation about the future of the famous rotating restaurant, which offers a prize view of the entire Québec skyline in the time it takes to enjoy a meal.  Owners of other restaurant chains in the region had put forward bids and ideas, including turning the restaurant into a nightclub.  Groupe Resto Plaisir’s new concept for the restaurant will be made public later in the week.

The saga of the Concorde’s new ownership is not over, as threats of legal action continue to loom between spurned potential buyers and City Hall.  Mayor Labeaume himself had stepped in to denounce that a group of interested buyers was under the influence of the Montréal mafia and also refused to allow the skyline’s second-most-famous hotel to be turned into a retirement home.
