Mike Paterson: Multi-talented comedian, actor, wrestler, and epic cheese lover to perform in Quebec City at ComediHa!

Mike Paterson, comedian, actor, wrestler, and all manner of other things besides, is to perform in Quebec City during the 2017 edition of the ComediHa! festival.

We caught up with Mike earlier for a chat about his life in the public eye.

He’s been on the scene for a while now, and in addition to being a veteran on the Canadian comedy circuit (15 years on Just for Laughs and counting), he’s also appeared in movies, in commercials, and on tv shows.

When pressed on which genre he prefers, he was unequivocal in his response ”In this economy, in today’s environment, you have to do everything. You have to be a jack of all trades. Jack of all trades, master of none”, he says. Then adds adds with a mischievous chuckle ”Well I’m jack of all trades, master of the universe.”
”This is not like a job. I love it”, he continues.

Continually learning, Paterson says he thoroughly enjoyed working on a film with Hollywood heavyweight John Malkovich. ”Just being around him, standing next to him for four months, I took in everything he was doing, watched his acting process, and tried to do the things that he did. He wrote his own lines down and no one else’s. This meant he had to listen. It’s a whole new way to learn lines and I do that all the time now. This guy is a genius and is as talented as everyone thinks he is.”

In between small and big screen projects, he finds the time to fit in some stand up.

The popular comedian has been on stage in Quebec City performing in English before and is looking forward to coming back.

Says Mike ”I’ve done eighteen shows at the Quebec City Carnaval. I’d say about 75 per cent of each audience was Francophone. Clearly they were bilingual, but there’s like a neat revolution of language going on here.
Quebec City is also a destination city. It has tourists that come all year round. Brits, Americans, Australians, you name it, and then there’s the bilingual people who live in the city.”

Asked why people should go see his show rather than the others during the 12-day laughter extravaganza he offers ”The ComediHa! festival is awesome. It really is. And I’m the best. I’m pretty darn funny.  I don’t want to build it up too much, but it’ll be like Star Wars and Wrestlemania on an Imax. The jokes coming out will be like fireworks. Come see my show!”

In his spare time (when he actually has some) Mike Paterson wrestles and eats a lot of cheese (constantly), but probably not at the same time.

Or maybe he does.

You’ll have to go see one of his shows to find out.

Which is handy as he’ll be in Quebec City real soon.

To satisfy Mike’s cheese obsession, we’ll be sampling a generous selection of Quebec’s finest somewhere in the city during his visit. Pictures to follow. Eventually. Probably.

Come and join us.

Catch Mike and many other comedians during the festival.
