Millions for Robert Lepage’s Jewel

Millions for Robert Lepage’s Jewel

Quebec City and the Quebec government have confirmed their participation in the Diamond Project.

Palais Montcalm also announced the purchase of a $1.5M organ which will propel the theatre to new heights.

The Diamond Project is worth 60 million dollars and will be launched with the help from the Quebec government, $30M being the figure mentioned in the last Bachand budget.

Minister Christine Saint-Pierre, Robert Lepage, and Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume confirmed the investment yesterday.

Mr. Labeaume has always been financially supportive towards his city but up until now has never demonstrated to what extent.

The Mayor wanted Quebec City director, Robert Lepage to have his own place which will not only serve as a 650-seat theatre, but also be used for other shows such as operas and even a circus.

Palais Montcalm, the Quebec government, the City, and private partners announced an agreement to purchase a Casavant organ worth 1.5 million dollars. This instrument will attract more people and become a must-see for tourists worldwide.

The space reserved for this unique organ in Quebec was planned during the construction of the Palais Montcalm in the early 2000’s at a cost of some $23M.

Apart from the installation, there is nothing else to be done.

The instrument will be placed on the balcony where there used to be seats facing the maestro.

The organ should be ready in about a year and a half from now.

Mr. Labeaume was present for the announcement as well as Minister Christine Saint-Pierre, and the Palais Montcalm administration council President, Mr. André Fortier.
