MONTREAL — Didier Drogba was named MLS player of the month for October, the second month in a row the Montreal Impact striker has taken the award.

Drogba had four goals in five games (four starts) in October, helping Montreal win its last three games and take third place in the Eastern Conference.

The former Chelsea star, who joined Montreal in August, has 11 goals in as many MLS games.

His arrival helped Montreal go 7-2-2 down the stretch and earn home-field advantage for a knockout round playoff game Thursday night against Toronto FC.

Asked his impressions of MLS after a regular season-ending 2-1 win over Toronto on Sunday, Drogba said: “MLS is a good league with some good teams. You can see there’s some good football played here, but I think if this league wants to be one of the best in the world in the next few seasons, there’s a lot of things to improve, like the travelling of the players. And to play on the (artificial) turf surface is. . . when you want to compare this league to the English, the French, the Spanish, to the big leagues, there’s lot to do. But I think the league is on the way.”
