Mo Bro or Mo Sista – The MoMen Need You!

Mo Bro or Mo Sista – The MoMen Need You!

Submitted by Peter Stuart

MOVEMBER: ARE YOU A ‘MO BRO’ OR ‘MO SISTA’? IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR WHEN MEN AROUND THE WORLD GROW THEIR MOUSTACHES TO SUPPORT THE FIGHT AGAINST PROSTATE CANCER AND TO SUPPORT MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES.

I got an e-mail with a file attachment last year from my brother in Ontario. The attachment showed him in a picture with his thick bushy moustache shaved off and an explanation of why he did it.  He said it was all about ‘Movember’, a worldwide movement of men who raise money and awareness about Prostate Cancer. (He was supposed to be growing it back to show his support for the cause).

So this year, I decided to do something about it myself. So I went to the Movember Canada Home Page and read up on it. Turns out the movement started in 1999 in Australia and New Zealand by a group of men who started a moustache growing activity to raise funds and awareness about prostate cancer and men’s mental health issues.

It has since spread around the world to places such as Canada, the UK, USA, South Africa, Denmark, the CzechRepublic and other countries.
The ‘Movember’ reference refers to ‘Moustache’ and ‘November’, and the men who engage in the activity are known as ‘Mo Bros’ and the women in their lives who support them are known as ‘Mo Sistas’.

The LifeinQuebec.com MoMen need your support.

So far, there are 3 team members.
We could always do with more, and some sponsorship, if ever you felt the urge…

Sponsor the MoMen

So I signed up on their official website and have since linked it to my Face book page to allow anybody who wants to make a donation to do so. All the money raised in Canada goes to the Movember organization who partners with Prostate Cancer Canada. Together they channel the money to various initiatives which support their strategic goals of funding research into treatments for Prostate Cancer, improving the outcomes for survivors, raising awareness and education through their annual campaign about men’s health to encourage men to make healthy choices, and to improve treatment for men’s mental health issues.

So to all you ‘Mo Bros’, start growing your moustaches and the ‘Mo Sistas’ who support them, well, be supportive and help them raise money and don’t wince when you kiss that caterpillar over his upper lip! (Movember only lasts 30 days, so offer it up!)
