Montreal police searching for suspect as woman shot during armed robbery
Montreal police continued their search Tuesday for a male suspect in a brazen daytime armed robbery that left a woman in hospital with a gunshot wound.
The man fled into the nearby Frontenac subway station, east of the downtown area.
The incident took place at a convenience store inside a strip mall.
Police spokesman Benoit Boiselle said the 41-year-old victim was struck at least once in the upper body and was listed in stable condition.
She was conscious when transported to hospital, but in a state of shock, Boiselle said.
Police officers scoured the subway for the suspect, who is believed to be about 40.
Boiselle said police haven’t found the weapon and that the suspect made off with an unknown sum of money.
Police later released grainy surveillance image of the suspect showing him going through the subway turnstiles.
Boiselle said earlier that police were helped by citizens who snapped photos of him.
The emergency calls came in around 12:40 p.m. and witnesses led police to the victim.
“As for the sequence of events, police officers will need to talk to witnesses and the victim to get a clear chronology of what happened,” Boiselle said.
