New Bridge for Shannon

The municipality of Shannon will finally be getting a new bridge across the Jacques Cartier River on Gosford Road. The Department of Transportation has launched tenders for an estimated $30 million project.

The old bridge to Shannon will also be preserved and renovated for use by both cyclists and pedestrians. Two million dollars of the $30 million will be invested in its revitalization.

The new two-lane bridge will be built just to the east of the current structure.

The construction of a new bridge has become necessary due to the increase in traffic and new home construction in the area.

The current one-lane bridge is almost 137 years old and with the obvious increase in traffic and the expanded development of the municipality over the last decade, the construction of a new bridge has become for  all intents and purposes a must.

The first tenders have been launched with the aim to start work in 2015.

All residents of the area are anxious to see the construction get started a.s.a.p.
