New IGA Supermarket All-Wood Concept Coming to Boischatel

The IGA supermarket group will open a new food market concept in Boischatel. The supermarket will be entirely built with Quebec wood, a first in the province. It will be a unique experience for clients when the shop opens at the end of August.

The 37 000 square feet shop will have a mezzanine with a view on the St-Lawrence River and l’Île d’Orléans, elevators, and a heated interior parking lot for 90 vehicles. This project will be the first in the grocery store industry in the province to be entirely built with wood.

The owner already has five other IGA’s in the Quebec region like the one in Cap-Rouge, and he is certain that the concept will be adopted by many in the years to come.

According to the architect in charge of the project, Carlo Peirolo from Atelier 21, the challenge of building in the hills of Boischatel hasn’t been easy. The shop has to blend in with the heart of the municipality by using traditional volumes and the natural landscape.
