NYPD Pipes and Drums Confirm Presence at Quebec City 2012 St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Québec, February 29, 2012 – The organising committee of the Défilé de la St-Patrick de Québec is proud to announce the return of the New York Police Department Pipes and Drums. For a third consecutive year, 30 professional bagpipers and percussionists will march in our parade to continue this grand tradition in Québec City on Saturday, March 24, at 1:30 p.m.

Among our many new and exciting elements, a timeline symbolically depicting the importance of the history of the Irish in Québec will highlight noteworthy key events and characters within a four-phase contingent. It will span from the era of New France and the arrival of the first Irish soldiers to the Québécois-Irish of today, and be juxtaposed in chronological and theatrical fashion in our third edition of the Défilé. Sylvie Duguay will play the part of La Bolduc (Mary Travers), and pay hommage to this great singer and artist of the Industrial Revolution known for her Irish roots.

The Battlefields Park Commission will honour the Québec Bulldogs hockey team (many of whom were Irish) in this 100th anniversary year of their Stanley Cup win.

Mr. Pierre Boisclair will open the parade with a six-horse hitch of magnificent Canadian Horses (le petit cheval de fer), in the authentic manner and style of Québec parades of yesteryear.

Many other surprises await young and old!
