Opening ceremony for new Quebec arena announced

Quebec City (Quebec) 22 April 2015 – September is going to be a big month for the new arena which may someday be home to a national hockey league team. The opening date has been set for September 11, 2015 and the show to kick things off will be reserved for local francophone talent. After the grand opening however there is a solid list of international stars who will be showing up to rock the new stadium newly named Centre Vidéotron.

The main event on September 16 will be the return of Metallica to the capital city for the ninth time. Metallica has been chosen to give two shows within 48 hours of one another, one on September 14 at the old Colisée Pepsi to shut it down before it’s demolished, and the second show at the new Centre Vidéotron the 16th. Tickets for the show at the Colisée are available from Billetech, whereas the tickets for the show at Centre Vidéotron are only available through Ticketmaster. According to Mayor Labeaume, Metallica is a perfect choice to kick things off as the group seems to be a favorite among the local population having already played the old Colisée 7 times.

Among other artists who will be celebrating the opening week of festivities at the new centre will be Madonna, who will present a show on September 21, after having played Montreal on the 9th and 10th.

A Quebec group called Rock et Belles Oreilles will be playing that same week after having also played Montreal. A hockey game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins is also on the schedule for the month of September.
