Opération Nez Rouge Ready for Another Season

Quebec City (Quebec) November 5, 2014 – Every year around this time we start to hear about the services of the Nez Rouge, and their endeavors to not only keep drunk drivers off the roads but, to also contribute the money they collect to different charities throughout the country to help amateur sport and the delinquent youth.

The founder and President of the organisation, Jean-Marie de Koninck, speaking at the launch of the 31st year of operations wanted to make people understand that the money donated and offered to its drivers is used to help various charities and not just pocketed by the volunteers who make the whole service viable. In a recent on-line survey 70% of the population didn’t realize that the money collected goes to help the young less fortunate of our society.

On the same survey 99% of the respondents said the idea of Nez Rouge was an excellent project and that it probably saves lives and helps reduce serious injuries resulting from people driving under the influence of alcohol.

The organization distributes its annual $1.5 million dollars collected to 100 different charity causes, 61 of which are in the province of Québec. Nez Rouge usually counts on about 156 volunteers to make its program work and they don’t expect that to change this year. The service offers a lift home for those who have had a little too much to drink using the client’s car, which not only gets the inebriated person home but, also gets his car there to, killing two birds with one stone for the partygoer who just couldn’t resist that last glass of holiday spirit. The Opération Nez rouge 2014 starts December 5 and runs until December 31.
