Suggestions of highly colourful outings during the Quebec Winter Carnival.

Québec, January, 2012 – From January 27 to February 12, the Quebec Winter Carnival displays its colours, and it is on the Plains of Abraham, Québec City’s rallying site par excellence, that «Bonhomme» (the snowman mascot) has chosen to build his famous palace.

The National Battlefields Commission invites you to make the most of the proximity of carnival activities to visit the Odyssey multimedia exhibition, put on snowshoes to follow behind a friendly guide from last century, or even participate in winter sports such as cross-country skiing, walking or snowshoeing. Show your carnival effigy and get a discount on these activities and on cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals (use of trails is free).


An Odyssey unique to Québec City
Head for the Odyssey a multimedia exhibition covering 400 years of history from the birth of New France to the park’s creation, through the accounts of various personalities, animated displays and an outstanding uniform collection. Multimedia technology, special effects, scale models and animatronics will help you discover the Plains as you never have before.
Regular fare (excluding the $1 discount if wearing the effigy) : $10 /18-64 years old, $8/13-17 years old and 65 years old and older, free for children 12 and under.
In addition, every Saturday and Sunday in January and February, residents of Québec City and the surrounding area will be admitted free to the Odyssey exhibition, with proof of residence.

Snowshoer’s walk
History buffs and winter outings enthusiasts, join a snowshoer from the early 20th century on a trail marked out by the sports history of the Plains of Abraham. Amédée Fournier will guide you through the local snowshoeing history, but also the Quebec Bulldogs’ double Stanley Cup triumph, ski jorring, winter strolls, and much more. Traditional snowshoes, lantern, arrowhead sash and hot chocolate included.
In French: 7:00 p.m.: January 21 and 28, February 10 and 25, March 3. In English, 4:00 p.m.: February 11 Regular fare (excluding the $1 discount if wearing the effigy): $17/13-64 years old, $15 /8-12 years old and 65 years old and over. Reservations required.

Winter fun
The Plains of Abraham also offers visitors and sportsmen and women an opportunity to enjoy free access to walking, cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails right in the heart of the city. Beginner or intermediate cross-country skiers can take advantage of a waxing room and 12.6 km of groomed trails (classic cross-country skiing and ski skating). A 3.8 km groomed trail running along Cap Diamant is maintained for snowshoers, while 5.6 km are set aside for walkers. Two rest stops welcome visitors needing to warm up: the pavilion near the Edwin-Bélanger Bandstand and east of Drill Hall, the Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham, which also offers cross-country ski and snowshoe equipment rentals for children and adults (Thursday through Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $1 discount if wearing the effigy).
