Plains of Abraham Open House for Canada Day

Quebec, June, 2013 – In order to mark Canada Day, the National Battlefields Commission invites the public to be part of the history of the Plains of Abraham by visiting the park’s outstanding attractions.

Next July 1st, the Odyssey multimedia exhibition and the Martello tower 1 augmented reality exhibition will open their doors free of charge to visitors and their families. The Student Masterworks exhibition is getting renewed for its 5th edition and will be also available to the public the July 1st.

Martello Tower 1
From 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the overhang towering above the St. Lawrence River

Enter in the famous Martello Tower 1 where you will explore a part of the Quebec towers‘history with a tablet (iPad). A unique, virtual and user-friendly experience to discover in real time historical vignettes superimposed on the decor of the tower.

Odyssey Multimedia Exhibition
From 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham – level 1 and 2 From the birth of the colony to the creation of the country, witness the importance of the Plains of Abraham through 400 years of history. Amazing and lively multimedia presentations alongside great historical figures, as well as a remarkable collection of uniforms related to the battles, will be waiting for you here.

Martello Tower 4
A look through the eyes of tomorrow’s architects new From 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham – level 2

Through this mini-exhibition taking part of Odyssey exhibition, discover how tomorrow’s architects reinterpreted the vocation of Martello Tower 4. Hotel, diving centre, cafe lounge, bike stop… a boundless imagination. Surprising, original, visionary. Project carried out in the fall of 2012 by thirteen students of workshop 3, Heritage Interpretation and Requalification, under the leadership of David Tajchman, architect and visiting professor. In collaboration with the École d’architecture UniversitéLaval.

Student Masterworks – 5th edition new
From 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham – level 0

Go back to New France via an exhibition presenting more than one hundred new reproductions of historical objects. Authentic creations by primary and secondary level students: furniture, clothes, pottery, games and other everyday objects of the period. In collaboration with the Commission scolaire de la Beauce-Etchemin.
