Police Save Instigator of Car Chase

2014-08-12 Car Interior

Quebec City (Quebec) August 12, 2014 – In the wee hours of the morning at around 4AM on Monday, police noticed a black Mazda 3 driving erratically on Grande Allée. They followed the car until they reached the bottom of Cote d’Abraham where they attempted to approach the driver, identified as Abdelhami-Bahgdad Berrezouk, when suddenly he decided to take off and try to outrun the police causing a pursuit for several blocks.

The chase started and continued for a short distance to 3e ave and the Dorchester Bridge where, obviously out of control at this point, the driver jumped the sidewalk ploughed down a sign, together with some trees, and ended up in the St. Charles River with his car slowly starting to fill with water.

The police ran to the vehicle and managed to drag M. Berrezouk from the vehicle, probably saving him from drowning as the water was already up to his chin, and being obviously inebriated, may not have been able to exit the car by himself. It was noticed at the time that M. Berrezouk smelled strongly of alcohol. He was taken to a hospital to sober up and calm down and was consequently taken to the municipal court to face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous driving and finally, avoiding arrest causing pursuit. All these offences happened within a four or five block radius.

Apparently it was not a good night for M. Berrezouk.
