THE 2015 FEQ: INTERNATIONAL STATURE

Quebec City, July 20, 2015 – What will we take away from this 48th Festival d’été de Québec? The legendary Rolling Stones on the Plains of Abraham, the Foo Fighters and their blitz concert, the enthusiastic fans lining up for Vance Joy, Colin James, Lisa LeBlanc, Vincent Vallières and Milky Chance, the magnetism of Charles Bradley, the magic of Patrick Watson or perhaps the charm of Keith Urban? These and many more evenings stand out, but beyond the music, this is the year it can truly be said that the Festival d’été de Québec is no longer a best-kept secret!

The quality and scope of the program was impressive – and the major media sat up and decided to come take a look, adding up to a press review counting articles and mentions by the thousands. Managers and heads of artists’ agencies and record companies also came to town and were blown away. “Never before has the Festival d’été de Québec had such a privileged relation with the North American music industry,” said Daniel Gélinas, general manager of the Festival d’été de Québec. “What started out as curiosity soon became a realization and then recognition of what we are: one of the world’s top festivals. Today, the word is out that in Quebec there is an incomparable music festival and an amazing public that is second to none.”

The hospitality accorded artists, the quality of the technical equipment, security and crowd management, local media coverage – everything was appreciated and noted. The messages from tour managers speak for themselves:

“Thanks so much for a wonderful experience at your truly remarkable event. Roskilde, Montreux, Glastonbury – they fade into the distance when one thinks of the Plains of Abraham and the Festival d’été!”
Chuck Hull, tour manager for Keith Urban

“Just wanted to say a huge thank you for an awesome time we all had at your festival. It was a pleasure being part of your incredible festival – and the crowd was amazing! Everyone was so lovely and we had such a fun day”
Louisa Key, tour manager for The Tragically Hip

Similar echoes from the media:
“A gem of an event” – Le Figaro

“The Festival d’été de Québec presents one of the largest and most diverse musical festivals in North America” – Broadwayworld.com

“Festival d’été de Québec has brought together one of the best lineups of artists we’ve seen in a while” – AXS entertainment

“Festival d’été de Québec pulls no punches, bringing the biggest and best names in hip-hop, electronic, indie, folk, and yes, even dad-rock to a historic outdoor venue filled with 100,000 music fans.” – Complex Canada

“This could quite possibly be the most impressive—and affordable—music festival on Earth.” – Budget Travel

Testimonials such as these go a long way toward anchoring the position of the Festival in the industry and set the stage for top-calibre content in the years to come. “With this solid strategic positioning, our fans can count on an exciting future for the FEQ,” said program director Louis Bellavance.

The presence of one of the top stars of new country music on the Plains of Abraham Bell Stage proved to be a big hit. “This opens a new window of opportunity for the many artists in the genre. So watch out, this only the beginning!” he added.

Even though the entire Festival stands behind this success, it’s hats off to the loyal festival fans and especially the local fans who, night after night, and even in the pouring rain, crowd the sites to see their favourite stars. This year, many fans came from Ontario, the United States, Europe and even as far away as Australia and Latin America.

As the chairman of the board Louis Duchesne noted, “The Festival generates huge economic spinoffs. We are extremely proud to contribute so vigorously to the economic and tourist development of the Quebec City area.
The Festival also salutes the outstanding work of its team of official photographers and its video team whose images captured the Festival in all its effervescence.”

The Festival d’été de Québec thanks all its public and private partners who, once again, made the presentation of this 48th edition possible.

The 49th edition of the Festival d’été de Québec will be held from July 7 to 17, 2016.

The Festival d’été de Québec is presented by Bell in collaboration with Molson Canadian.
