Prison for Revenu Québec Investigator

Éric Lachapelle, an Investigator for Revenu Québec, who stole more than $180,000 from the department for which he worked, went to prison last week.  He has received a sentence of 20 months.

“This type of crime has to be dealt with immediately,” Judge Pierre Labelle stated when giving the sentence.  Relatives of Lachapelle, present in the courtroom, cried when he was handcuffed and taken to the detention area.

The 27 year old man was charged and arrested in the spring of 2012, after an investigation that lasted a year.  Last January, he pleaded guilty to charges of embezzlement, fraud and theft.

These events took place between the 15th of July and the 30th of November, 2010, while Lachapelle was working as an auditor and investigator in the department of Investigations and Special Projects for Revenu Québec.

He had taken advantage of loopholes in the security system.
