Quebec Awards $30,000 in Sports Scholarships

Québec scholarships adding up to $ 30,000 were awarded to nine student-athletes from the region by the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence and Hydro-Quebec earlier this week. 

For student-athletes pursuing high school, college, or university, these grants are distributed on the recommendation of the sports federations of each respective beneficiary. Divided into two groups, either the new generation or the elite, they are all eligible to represent Canada in the Olympic Games, Paralympic, or  in the World Championship of his/her discipline. 

Among the new generation of athletes, wheelchair basketball player Vincent Dallaire, 17, from Quebec, taekwondoïste Vincent Foster, 18, from Quebec, and the cyclist Frédérique Trudel, 18, from Breakeyville have respectively received a $2,000 worth of financial assistance. 

On the elite side, $4,000 scholarships were awarded to the boxer Emilien Boucher-Johnston, 20, from Saint-Nicolas, swimmer Jade Dusablon, 18, from Quebec, speed skater Yoan Gauthier, 18-years old from Rivière-du-Loup, basketball player Sarah-Jane Marois, 17, from Quebec, racquetball athlete Michele Morissette, 16, from Baie-Comeau, and biathlete Audrey Vaillancourt, 21, also from Quebec.

Past beneficiaries of grants from the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence and Hydro-Quebec, in particular, include the judoka Antoine Valois-Fortier, bronze medalist at the last Olympic games in London.
