Québec Capitales Players in the World Baseball Classic Qualifiers

QUEBEC, September, 2012 – Several players who have worn the Québec Capitales uniform in recent years will participate in the World Baseball Classic qualifiers for the upcoming tournament to be held in March 2013.

Canada will play its first game in Germany. They rely on the presence of two players from the 2012 team, Jonathan Malo and Jamie Richmond, as well as that of pitcher Andrew Albers who last wore the Quebec uniform in 2010.

Quebecers and members of the Milwaukee Brewers, Philippe-Alexandre Valiquette, will also be part of the Canadian pitcher staff led by former expo Denis Boucher.

Simultaneously, the Capitales hope, Warren Coopman and junior power hitter Rene Leveret will wear the French colours and will enter the fray in Florida. Ace reliever Eric Gagne will also train the French team.

For their part, Adam Kudryk who started the year in Quebec, joined Germany, while the Capitales outfielder Steve Brown will join his Columbian teammates later in November for phase two of the qualifications.

The winner of each of the four qualification groups (4 teams per pool) will join the other 12 countries already qualified for the World Baseball Classic in 2013 whose membership includes the United States, Japan, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico.
