Québec Celtic Festival Announces Kilt Run

For the 9th Annual Quebec City Celtic Festival, held September 3 to 7, 2014, the Festival is launching a brand new sporting event: the Kilt Run!

The five-kilometer fun run will be held Saturday, September 6 at 10:00 a.m., bringing together kilted runners or walkers! Rather than being given a shirt upon arrival, each participant will receive a kilt! The event is open to adults and young people aged 12 and older.

Other “Kilt Runs” are held annually in Perth, Scotland, Antigonish and Halifax, Nova Scotia and Perth, Ontario in Canada and Mansaquan, New Jersey and Sand Lake, New York in the United States. The festival’s organisers are hoping to continue to grow the Celtic Festival, which has over it’s 9-year span gone from a small local festival to one filled rue Saint-Jean with the first-ever Street Céilidh last year.

The Celtic Festival’s complete program will be unveiled in June via a press release and on the website. The festival also announces an addition to the athletic part of the Festival: Hurling. The classic activities have also been enhanced: the Highland Games, Gaelic football (the Provincial Championship will be held here in Quebec City) as well as cultural activities such as conferences and evenings of tales and legends. The site at Chaussée des Écossais, among others, will present a variety of family activities.

Those interested in participating in the Kilt Run can sign up on the Festival’s website.
