Québec City, a Social Sciences Laboratory

Quebec City (Quebec) 25 April 2015 – In an effort to improve our quality of life, the City has announced a partnership with the newly-formed Unité Mixte de Recherche en Sciences Urbaines (Mixed Urban Sciences Research Unit, or UMR-SU) to study all aspects of modern city living.  The research initiative will be based on the ongoing work of researchers from Université Laval and the Institut National de Recherche Scientifique (better known as INRS), and will reach across disciplines to study the social, economic, and lifestyle impacts of technology, social policy, infrastructure, utilities, and anything else that may have an impact on living in the city.

Both the municipal and provincial government have pledged 500 000$ to the new multidisciplinary research centre, which will be hosted in the Parco Technologique by Thales, a defense technology firm that had the space to spare for the UMR-SU’s new 3000sqft laboratory.

The City has also promised to make its full infrastructure available for research and study.
