Quebec City German Christmas Market 2010

Quebec City German Christmas Market 2010

At the third German Christmas Market in Quebec City, organized by the German Community of Quebec, activities for the whole family will introduce you to German culture and traditions.

Events  will take place  from December 3rd  to 5th and December 10th to 12th,  in the courtyard of the ‘Cathedral of the Holy Trinity’, 31, rue des Jardins (Old Quebec).

Starting at the end of November, people in Germany celebrate the advent season, in preparation of Christmas, with traditional decorations like the Christmas wreath, special pastries like the famous ‘Vanillekipferl’ and songs only sung at this time of the year.

The cultural activities at our German Christmas market include traditional Christmas music throughout the opening hours of the market, a real barrel organ and sing-along of German Christmas carols.

You might even spot the ‘Christkind’, the Christmas angel, or the ‘Nikolaus’, the German Santa Claus.

There will be also craft activities and a play area for children accompanied by their parents.

In our series of seven concerts of German music LICHT IN SICHT / lumière en vue, renowned artists will share with you the richness of German vocal and instrumental music.

From Medieval times and the Renaissance to the latest compositions of the 21st century and German folklore – you will be sure to find something for your musical taste and interest!

There will be also two family concerts, where you can hear violin students from the Quebec Conservatory of Music  or the members of the German Choir of Quebec sing and play German music and traditional carols.

Concerts will take place at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 31, Rue Des Jardins, Old Quebec.

Family concerts on Sundays are free (a small financial contribution would be appreciated but is not obligatory).

On December 11th,  the Bavarian concert “Bavarian Christmas” is free of charge as it is sponsored by the State of Bavaria Quebec Office in Montreal.

Tickets for the other concerts are 15 $ for adults,  12 $ for children age 12 to 18 years of age,  children under 12 years are free.

Tickets are on sale at Mélomag, 1354 ave. Maguire,  telephone: 418.527.2455 and at the Caisse Populaire Desjardins, 550 rue St.Jean and 19, rue des Jardins.
