Quebec City Ice Canoe Race 2012

Quebec City Ice Canoe Race 2012

This race forms part of the Quebec City Winter Carnival experience and is one of those things just not to be missed.

This year, the 58th year of the world’s largest winter carnival, saw teams from far and wide attempt to make their way across the St. Lawrence River from Quebec City to Lévis.

Sunday 3rd February, 2012. 1.30pm.
The race started at Bassin Louise and the teams had to get across to the ferry terminal on the other side.

Competitors had to negotiate the river, currents and huge lumps of ice along the way.
Team members wear crampons in order to help them run on the ice where necessary.

Over 40 teams braved the conditions this year.
There were 3 competitions in all: elite men’s, elite women’s and the sport category (mixed).

We think you’re all winners for taking part.

This event is right up there with Red Bull Crashed Ice as being one of the maddest sports on offer in Quebec City.

Who’s up  for the challenge next year?
