Quebec City Reading Council Honoured by Central Quebec School Board

By Quebec City Reading Council

Recently, the Eastern Quebec Learning Centre (EQLC) hosted an afternoon tea in honour of the Quebec City Reading Council.

Stephen Burke (Chairman) and Marielle Stewart (Director General) of the Central Quebec School Board (CQSB) joined EQLC Director Susie Faguy in stating their appreciation for QCRC’s 35 years spent providing adult and family literacy services in the English-speaking community in and around Quebec City.

Ms. Stewart said, “I would like to thank the Quebec City Reading Council for the pivotal role that they play in supporting our Adult Learners […] The Quebec City Reading Council is instrumental in improving student success in our Adult and Vocational Education programs, CQSB and EQLC are very fortunate to have such a devoted and caring partner in the Quebec City Reading Council.”

Cynthia Michaud, SARCA Special Projects Officer at EQLC, shared the history and lore of British-style tea with the students, staff, and QCRC members present. The participants enjoyed scones, cucumber sandwiches, and trifle, and agreed that the event should become an annual element of the EQLC+QCRC effort to celebrate Adult Learner Week.

We spoke to Cathy Nolan, Executive Director at the Quebec City Reading Council and she stated that

‘It really is a big deal to be honoured by the CQSB, it’s not every day this kind of award is presented.

I am really proud for our volunteers and Board.

This kind of accolade is what encourages volunteers to give back to their community.

It enables QCRC to continue to build its reputation and to support its volunteers who are so very willing and happy to continue giving.

Seriously, we just couldn’t provide the service without our volunteers.’
