Quebec City Rocked By Underground Explosion

Quebec City Rocked By Underground Explosion

by Elizabeth Davies

There were two underground explosions yesterday morning at 11:25 on Saint Anne Street near City Hall in Old Quebec.

Smoke was seeping from the manholes where the explosions took place. Firefighters and Hydro Quebec rushed to the scene. Consequently, The Clarendon Hotel and The Price Building were evacuated and all local businesses closed for the day.

Many residents were also left without power.

Work was being done underground when a workman inadvertently touched a wire which caused the power failure. There will be an investigation to find out what caused the explosions.
